Walden Event a Success

Here are the details about last week's Walden charity event from Undercover.com:

Don Henley Walden Piano Pulls in $510k by Paul Cashmere - October 9 2007

A piano auctioned at the Walden Woods benefit in New York last Thursday earned $510,000 for the charity. The charity was founded in 1990 by Eagles' drummer Don Henley as a "non-profit organization that preserves the land, literature and legacy of Henry David Thoreau to foster an ethic of environmental stewardship and social responsibility," according to the foundation's website. Funds raised for the charity go towards conservation, education and research.

Henley hosted the charity dinner with the centrepiece being a custom-built Steinway model D piano autographed by Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, Elton John, Herbie Hancock and others. During the evening, Billy Joel played the piano and performed his songs 'Summer, Highland Falls' and 'Piano Man' for the audience. Henley took to the microphone for 'Come Rain or Come Shine' and 'It Ain't Easy Being Green' and came back later to do a version of 'Georgia On My Mind' which he sang as 'Walden On My Mind'. The audience included Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Bette Midler, Ed Begley Jr, Val Kilmer and John Malkovich.
